I frequently walk or bike on the Virginia Creeper Trail. On a recent ride, about 7 miles down the trail where it winds through a farm, David and I came upon a large pan of squash and cucumbers. Tacked to the fence post above it, a tattered sign read, “FREE Take. . .” but it was ripped in half, so we could only speculate that it was asking the reader not to take more than one.
This was very generous of the farmer whose land we were riding through on our way up the trail. I stuffed a large yellow squash in my backpack, and we made squash boats for dinner that evening.
Our thanks to the kind person who left these fresh veggies for weary travelers such as ourselves. Way cool.
